"From earliest times Egypt looked with covetous eyes at its neighbour Nubia, particularly on account of the raw materials to be round there. There was ivory and ebony, there were leopard skins and incense that the Nubian tradesfolk acquired from more southern countries. But above all there were the natural minerals: and there was gold, most coveted of all. incidentally, the word for gold in ancient Egyptian was 'nub'. Probably Nubia meant the Land of Gold (jacobins.mairie-toulouse.fr)."
The above comes from an article by the above author entitled: EGYPT IN NUBIA.
I have only one question: If Egypt was jealous of Nubia from its earliest times, then Nubia must have already been there to begin with. You cannot be jealous of something that is not already there and you probably would not be jealous of something that was not already prominent, rich and powerful.
OK--so the above was not a question, but it seems to me Nubia was first, not Egypt.

and many more.
Hope this helps.
nubia first invented trade routes before egypt decided to take over what they had. In order to have busy, succeful trade routes like they did they would need to be settled down. This suggest that nubians must have been settled first
ReplyDeleteAlso if the egyptians borrowed a lot of the nubian religion...that suggest that since egyptian religion has been around since the beggining of their civilization the nubians must have been a thriving religious civilization first in order for the egyptians to borrow their religion
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteI hate to be the bearer of sad news, but the the Greeks changed the name of ancient KUSH to Nubia in many instances; Nubia is none othr than ancient Ethipioa (southern egypt) and Ethiopia, another Greek word, is non other than KUSH...learn the ancient geography and your conclusions accordingly. as ever, wolettesealssie
ReplyDeleteMany times I use Kush and Nubia--and even upper Egypt--not lower--synonymously. They may have had a name of their own--it's just that there is not a way anymore to really find more artifacts because of the damms in Sudan--another place where they lived--and a lack of written documents.
ReplyDeleteWolette Selassie,
Thank you for your input.
